One For My Baby Video
Written and narrated by Karen Morris- special tribute to One For My Baby - Short VIDEO below
One For My Baby, the ultimate saloon song, was created by Harold Arlen and Johnny Mercer, for the 1943 movie musical The Sky's The Limit, starring Fred Astaire who was the first to perform it.
But soon it would be associated with Frank Sinatra, whose many renditions include the 1954 film Young at Heart, on stage in 1966 with the Count Basie Orchestra, and in 1958, with the chart topping Capitol album Only the Lonely.
Frank's poetic delivery, Nelson Riddle's marvelous arrangement, and the exquisite piano accompaniment of Bill Miller together developed a masterpiece.
Years later, Bette Midler sang the song with adapted lyrics, as a parting gift to TV host Johnny Carson (singing, John I know you're getting anxious to close) honoring his final Tonight Show appearance in 1992.
New York City's historic restaurant PJ Clarke's noted that Johnny Mercer sat at their bar and wrote the poignant lyrics on a cocktail napkin.
Some say prompted by the ending of his love affair with Judy Garland.
With a spotlight and a glass of Jack Daniels by his side, we can all agree Frank Sinatra interprets this torch song like no other..
This is Karen Morris with a (Rat Pack) Swingin' minute.
